LED light therapy is having a moment in our homes, clinics, and in research. From targeting skin wrinkles and acne to managing chronic pain and promoting tissue healing, studies indicate LED light therapy can be beneficial for a multitude of applications. At Lily + Horn, we are now offering Celluma Pro LED light panels as part of acupuncture sessions when therapeutically appropriate.
The Celluma Pro is a flexible LED light panel used specifically for photobiomodulation or phototherapy. Phototherapy can help improve circulation, accelerate tissue repair, decrease internal inflammation, kill acne bacteria on the skin, and improve overall skin tone, texture, and clarity. Since acupuncture does many of these things too, we are very excited to offer this treatment during acupuncture sessions to enhance results even more. Some preliminary studies also show red and near-infrared light therapy may improve fertility outcomes, particularly in women age 35 and older.
Celluma Pro uses red, blue, and near-infrared LED lights. Blue light targets bacteria in the epidermis to reduce acne. Red light penetrates the dermis and enhances collagen and elastin production through stimulating fibroblast activity. Near-infrared light penetrates the deepest into soft tissues and joints, increasing circulation & tissue repair and decreasing internal inflammation. It is this near-infrared setting that penetrates deep enough to potentially help some conditions related to infertility. People who experience menstrual cramps with their periods, have unexplained infertility, suspected or known endometriosis, PCOS, or any other inflammatory condition may benefit from phototherapy. It may also be beneficial for patients undergoing IVF egg retrieval and embryo transfer cycles.
Celluma Pro is best used over areas of clean, dry, bare skin without lotions, serums, clothing or sunscreen. We have makeup cleansing wipes available at Lily + Horn in case you need to remove makeup prior to receiving light therapy on the face (and will also provide protective eyewear). We also have a “clean”, natural skincare product line, Linné, which can be used to cleanse the face before and moisturize after. Celluma Pro has been approved by the FDA and is safe to use daily, but once or twice a week is enough to see benefits over the course of 3-6 months. The more frequently it is used, the greater the result. The light panel warms up over the course of the 30 minute treatment but will not burn if it is touching skin. They are disinfected before and after each use with hospital-grade disinfectant. While most businesses charge between $50-100 per use, we have opted to offer this therapy as part of acupuncture sessions so no one is limited to access of this device who might benefit from it in our community.
